FALIURE DIAGNOSTICS
90 % of all turbocharger failures are due to the following causes:
- Penetration of foreign bodies into the turbine or the compressor
- Dirt in the oil
- Inadequate oil supply (oil pressure/filter system)
- High exhaust gas temperatures (ignition system/injection system)
- These failures can be avoided by regular maintenance. When maintaining the air filter system, for example, care should be taken that no foreign body gets into the turbocharger.
Before you approach to turbocharger disassembling from the engine, the following points should be checked:
BLACK SMOKE?
- Turbocharger valve of disburden defective
- Turbocharger valve of disburden is choke
- Compressor or turbine wheel damaged
- Turbine housing damaged - crack
- Air exhaust installation punctured
- Dirty / shaded air filter system
- Dirty charge air cooler
- Punctured charge air cooler
- Injection fuel feed system incorrect
- Engine’s brake is incorrect
- Cracked or insufficiency tightened exhaust manifold
- Distracted ignition system
- Valve guide, piston rings, cylinder engine worn
- Common condition of engine is badly, poor compression and high inside pressure in engine, appearance of crankcase (oil sump) gas due to worn piston, rings, valve seals and valves.
BLUE SMOKE?
- Turbocharger defective
- Engine outlet shaded or clogged
- Dirty or shaded air filter system
- Oil level too high in oil tank
- Oil feed and drain lines clogged, leaking or distorted
- Valve guide, piston rings, engine or cylinder liners worn/increased blow-by
- Common condition of engine is badly, poor compression and high inside pressure in engine, appearance of oil tank gas due to worn piston, rings, valve seals and valves.
Compressor and turbine wheel damaged?
- Foreign body from air filter system
- The intake installation punctured
- Foreign body from engine
- Turbine housing damaged, cracked exhaust manifold
Engine oil loss – high oil consumption?
- Turbocharger defective
- Engine outlet shaded or clogged
- Dirty or shaded air filter system
- Valve guide, piston rings, engine or cylinder liners worn/increased blow-by
- Oil feed and drain lines clogged, leaking or distorted
- Common condition of engine is badly, poor compression and high inside pressure in engine, appearance of oil tank gas due to worn piston, rings, valve seals and valves.
Engine power loss – boost pressure too low?
- Defective turbocharger
- Turbocharger valve of disburden defective
- Turbocharger valve of disburden is choke
- Compressor or turbine wheel damaged
- Punctured charge air cooler
- Injection fuel feed system incorrect
- Dirty or shaded air filter system
- Shaded intestine for air intake in turbocharger
- Air leakage at pipe from turbocharger to engine intake manifold
- Engine’s brake is incorrect
- Engine intake or exhaust manifold cracked or insufficiency tightened
- Common condition of engine is badly, poor compression and high inside pressure in engine, appearance of oil tank gas due to worn piston, rings, valve seals and valves.
Oil leakage at compressor?
- Turbocharger defective
- Dirty or shaded air filter system
- Oil feed and drain lines clogged, leaking or distorted
- Crankcase ventilation clogged or distorted
- Leakage on seals driver’s valve
- Oil level too high in oil tank
- Prekomeran rad motora na leru
- Common condition of engine is badly, poor compression and high inside pressure in engine, appearance of oil tank gas due to piston’s worn and karika hilzni, gumica i ventila
- Valve guide, piston rings, engine or cylinder liners worn/increased blow-by
Turbocharger generates noise?
- Turbocharger defective
- Rotor is not in balance
- Rotor's blades damaged
- Engine exhaust manifold cracked/missing or loose gaskets
- Engine intake manifold cracked/missing or loose gaskets
- Air installation punctured or leaking
